Executive Summary: The Next Generation of Malaysian IP
In the Malaysian graphic fiction and youth entertainment landscape, legacy franchises often face "canon debt"—the commercial paradox where tenured nostalgia prevents a brand from evolving into contemporary, higher-stakes storytelling.
Project TEKAD is a comprehensive IP development proposal and franchise blueprint. Rather than retrofitting a decade-old legacy brand, TEKAD deploys a clean-slate strategy: preserving the proven emotional DNA of self-reliance, grit, and local camaraderie, but re-engineering the commercial engine into an agile, transmedia-ready shared universe set in the fictional coastal metropolis of Kota Selat.
Strategic Crossroads: Legacy Revamp vs. Clean Slate
The pitch outlines an executive analysis weighing the friction of revamping a 10+ book legacy franchise against launching an unencumbered property:
• Mitigating Canon Debt: A fresh IP removes historical continuity barriers, allowing for modern tech integration, multi-layered urban settings, and sharper dramatic stakes without alienating legacy purists.
• The "Trust Bridge" Advantage: Discovery risk is mitigated through creator pedigree ("Daripada pencipta siri MISI..."), instantly capturing the established fanbase while offering day-one entry for new readers.
• Commercial Agility: Built from the ground up for multi-tier transmedia—from serialized print publication to webcomics, motion reels, streetwear apparel, and animation pitches.
World Architecture: Kota Selat
A modular, four-district urban ecosystem designed for cross-title expansion and street-level lore:
• Sektor Dermaga & Pelabuhan (The Port): Heavy industrial shipyards, night-courier alleys, and grease-stained modder workshops. The primary arena for the flagship story.
• Pekan Lama Selat (Old Town): Heritage shophouses, street food alleys, and tight-knit communities—serving as the backdrop for slice-of-life and junior titles.
• Presint Korporat: Gleaming high-rise towers, automated transit grids, and institutional influence.
• Zon Pinggiran (Periphery): Unregulated DIY garages and underground modder circuits.
Technological logic is grounded in functional "grit-tech"—practical industrial helper bots (diagnostics units, cargo loaders) rather than glossy science-fiction tropes.
Fandom & Universe Architecture: The Single Flagship Model
Rather than fragmenting marketing spend across multiple demographic imprints simultaneously, TEKAD adopts a disciplined Flagship Anchor strategy:
• Unified Channel Advantage: Directing all initial social and community momentum through a single core brand channel (@tekadcomic) targeting the 13–24 demographic.
• City as Content: Turning the living ecosystem of Kota Selat into viral short-form media—motion comic teasers, district breakdown tours, and tech blueprints across TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
• Fandom-Led Expansion: Establishing emotional attachment to the core characters first, using cameo seeds (a junior scavenger, an academy investigator) to generate organic market pull for future spin-offs.
Core Characters & Narrative Engine
Danial (Age 15) — The Intuitive Mechanic
A motorcycle workshop apprentice and nocturnal street courier. Resourceful, stubborn, and driven by fierce self-reliance. Grounded in functional streetwear—reinforced utility vest, cargo layers, work boots, and industrial lanyard accents.
Ilyas (Age 15) — The Analytical Strategist
Route mapper, diagnostic specialist, and tech strategist. The intellectual foil to Danial’s kinetic momentum—equipped with diagnostic data-pads, HUD spec glasses, and technical weather-resistant outerwear.
Kupang — The Utility Companion Bot
A salvaged, rugged industrial mini-bot with tank treads and toolbox utility. Serves as functional team support, comedic relief, and an organic commercial bridge for collectibles, figures, and merchandise.
Four-Phase Execution Roadmap
1. Phase 1 (Months 1–2): World Bible, district style guides, grit-tech operating rules, and final character turnaround sheets.
2. Phase 2 (Months 2–4): 120–140-page flagship script development, baking in future spin-off cameo seeds.
3. Phase 3 (Months 5–7): Launch of @tekadcomic, deployment of a 3-part motion comic reel campaign, and digital proof-of-concept preview drops.
4. Phase 4 (Months 8–12+): Nationwide retail distribution at major book chains, festival debuts (PBAKL), and greenlighting secondary line extensions.
